SURE, they are only kids. They can’t defend themselves, and it seems very few adults are willing to defend the basic human rights of children in Ireland. As I track the news here in the UK, worried for my own children, the news from Ireland is even more horrifying.
The Irish government have decided in their wisdom to force every child from third class upwards to wear a mask in school full-time. That’s about age eight or nine. They have a slightly shorter school day over there, but that adds up to about five hours. I assume the children don’t have to wear the masks in the playground.
I cannot quite articulate my outrage at this measure. Forcing young children to wear masks for prolonged periods is one of the worst measures imposed by governments. Perhaps only the elderly in care homes have been treated with less respect.
This report from the Irish state broadcaster RTE, which has been broadcasting Covid propaganda for as long as this pandemic has run, is as you’d expect. Sure, they’ll be fine. No doubt lots of adults, usually maskless, will tell us this will teach the children to be resilient. It’s stomach-turning to watch a classroom full of masked children. It’s sick.
Have you noticed this concept of ‘resilience’ is frequently used to justify adult and governmental abuse of children? Close the schools: the kids are resilient. Mask the kids: they are resilient. Scrap the nativity play for a second year in a row: it will build the resilience. Very rarely are adults asked to be resilient, but children are.
I have two Godchildren who will have to suffer this regime. It seems very few adults who are supposed to be protecting children are willing to take a stand against it. All the teachers will go along with it, and most parents will comply. Because compliance is easier than courage.
The parents have either been browbeaten into accepting this deeply dehumanising treatment of their children, or they are true believers. They are willing to have the Irish government turn their kids into mere vectors of a disease – vectors that need to be muzzled.
An article in the BMJ from September 2020 argues that the threat of children spreading Covid is very small. ‘Analyses by the Karolinska and Pasteur Institute concluded that children and adolescents are unlikely to be the main spreaders in the Covid19 pandemic. Contamination from children to parents or teachers is sporadic. To date, the risk of infection appears to be greatest in the home situation, nursing homes and hospitals. In Sweden, where facemasks are not used in schools and schools even remained open during the first wave, as in other countries, the number of older people in intensive care has dropped from June to a few per week. Despite the recent increase in ‘Covid-19 infections’ in many other countries, only a small increase in Covid-19 patients in intensive care units can be observed.’
The negative effects of wearing a facemask are manifold. ‘Many people report claustrophobic experiences and difficulty getting sufficient oxygen due to the increased resistance to inhaling and exhaling. This can lead to an increased heart rate, nausea, dizziness and headaches and several other symptoms. In an inquiry among Belgian students wearing mouthmasks for one week, 16 per cent reported skin problems and 7 per cent sinusitis, also problems with eyes and headaches and fatigue were frequently mentioned. Furthermore, face masking can provoke an increase in stress hormones with a negative impact on immune resilience in the long term. Facemasks prevent the mirroring of facial expressions, a process that facilitates empathetic connections and trust between pupils and teachers. This potentially leads to a significant increase in socio-psychological stress.’
Reports from Germany included ‘increased reluctance to go to school, unhappiness, malaise, impaired learning, drowsiness, and fatigue’.
The regime in Ireland is particularly punitive. Only exemptions from a doctor will be accepted, and any children not wearing a mask and without a medical certificate is to be refused entry to school (although the principal in the RTE report said he would not refuse a child entry if they were not wearing a mask).
Anyway, I have no doubt that the Irish media will be full of stories of kids just delighted to wear masks. Sure, they will be so happy about it they will ask for different kinds of mask from Santa. That’s the way the propaganda machine works over there. The government must be thinking: if the adults go along with this, they will go along with anything.
These adults should be protecting children from the power-crazed public health nuts and government. But instead the teachers, grandparents, and parents will go along with this outrage because that’s just the easy way out. They should be ashamed of themselves.
