World’s #1 Tennis Player Novak Djokovic to Miss Australian Open Over Opposition to COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate
Novak Djokovic and other tennis stars will be given no special exemptions to enter Australia if they are unvaccinated or won’t reveal their COVID-19 vaccination status.
Asked on ABC radio on Wednesday (Oct. 20) morning whether he had a message for Djokovic, federal immigration minister Alex Hawke reiterated that anyone entering the country must be double vaccinated.
“The government in establishing its borders has said that you will need to be double vaccinated to visit Australia, that’s a universal application, not just for tennis players,” Hawke said.
Djokovic told Serbia’s Blic: “Things beings as they are, I still don’t know if I will go to Melbourne. I will not reveal my status whether I have been vaccinated or not, it is a private matter and an inappropriate inquiry. People go too far these days in taking the liberty to ask questions and judge a person. Whatever you say, ‘yes, no, maybe, I am thinking about it’, they will take advantage.”
